Highly entertaining murder thriller, July 20, 2015
By JP
This is an addictive, intriguing and unusual thriller which can easily be read in one sitting. It is well written, and the author cleverly weaves stories together without losing the consistency. She has clearly spent time focusing on the characters, to ensure they are all individual and unique, thus adding to the interest in the story.
It is a nice change to read an excellent thriller set in a part of the world that is often overlooked in this genre. This brings unique cultural issues to the fore, and these are all handled well by the author. Overall, this is an addictive and thoroughly enjoyable thriller.

As a long term lover of mystery thrillers I picked this book up recently due to its intriguing premise. I can now wholly attest to its entertaining story and well written plot. The author does a stellar job of balancing between two mysteries in the novel, keeping a perfect equilibrium as she jumps between the stories. The first is a horrible crime based around the purported abduction of a child. As that mystery slowly unravels it unveil the transgressions of many depraved individuals that commit atrocities that you'll just have to read about. The second story involves the death of a man in Nepal; two of the investigators head there on a path toward discovery, navigating the foreign culture until they arrive at a satisfying catharsis. I thoroughly enjoyed the writing style of the author because she is able to illustrate what goes on with a style that is easy to understand and devoid of convolution. Also the trajectory of the novel is a testament to her skill as the tension mounts with each passing page. I liked the primary protagonist, James Coopersy as well, and hope to see a lot more novels involving him in the future.
In summary, this is a stellar novel with a dual mystery that will keep anyone intrigued throughout. I'm sure it will remain a staple in my library for a long time to come; especially as I look forward to the next on in the series.

Murder in Kathmandu was one of the rare books I've read that had me absolutely glued to it from beginning to end. The story is very well written with just the right amount of thrill, murder, and suspense that kept me captivated as I turned each page. All of the characters, my favorite being James of course, are all unique and really well developed as you go through the story. This was actually the very first book I've read by Pepi Vilana Canet and I have to say I'm impressed.

I'm a huge fan of mystery and detective/crime novels, and I thoroughly enjoyed Murder in Kathmandu. It's really different than many others I've read since it has two major crimes going on at one time--a murder and an abduction. Seemingly unrelated, they start to mold together and the cases start to overlap. Amidst all the crime, there's a moving love story going on all at once, making for a great, multidimensional read. Overall, I really enjoyed the way the author was able to blend all of these aspects together to make a seamless book!
